Bringing History to Life through First-Person Portrayals

Wallis Warfield Simpson (1896-1986) was a twice-divorced American socialite whose relationship with King Edward VIII led to his abdication.  Born into a prominent Maryland family, Wallis moved to England because of the business interests of her second husband and soon met the then-Prince of Wales through social contacts.  Following his ascension to the throne, Edward insisted that he would marry Mrs. Simpson, thus provoking a constitutional crisis which culminated in his renunciation of the throne.  Following their marriage in France in 1937, she was known as the Duchess of Windsor.

Emily Lapisardi's portrayal of Wallis Simpson was developed by commission for the International Spy Museum's program exploring her possible espionage work prior to and during WWII.
